Super Truck Racing Series
2015 Season
News Release……………….Wetaskiwin , Alberta 28 Feb 2015
On a sunny winter afternoon in Wetaskiwin Alberta a large group of competitors gathered for the annual round table meeting to discuss the 2015 season of competition for the very popular Super Truck Racing Series.
Two very notable members attending the meeting were Dale Bettcher and Byron Deardoff, both residents of Wetaskiwin and pioneers of the series. Referring to these two competitors is similar to referring to the Chicago Blackhawks or the Montreal Canadians as members of the ‘Original Six’. Bettcher has taken on the continued role of Business Manager with Deardoff blending into a position as consultant to the series. The forum was well represented by newcomers to the series, past champions and the reigning championship team owner (Steve Morros) of Calgary, Alberta.
The day saw Ron Elder Sr. and Les Larsson of Vintage Racing roll out the planning so far for the 2015 season. Elder Sr. and Larsson can also be categorized as pioneers in the series and currently own the #14 Co-op Fuels Super Truck driven by Ron Larsson and returning #18 driven by Ron Elder Jr. As Elder Sr. and Larsson delivered the news about the 2015 season, you could feel the excitement building in the group.
A major announcement was made with the confirmation that the Super Truck Series would play a major role in the scheduling at the Edmonton International Raceway for 2015. The series has been without a central Alberta facility to compete at which has proven to be difficult with 75% of the teams coming from this region. EIR will play host to a staggering 6 events in 2015 which represents the most events per year (at one track) in the history of the series. EIR has recently undergone extensive upgrades to the facility including a complete resurfacing of the asphalt, upgraded fan amenities and parking lot upgrades. The facility played host to the NASCAR Canadian Tire series in 2014 with the Alberta Has Energy 300 in July and the excitement for the Super Truck Series began to grow from that point. The six events will be made up of four 50 lap main events and two 100 lap shows. May 30th will be the season opener for the Series at EIR!
Auto Clearing Speedway in Saskatoon will play host to a reduced schedule for the Super Trucks with two events, down from the four events of the past 8 years. The Series has learned that the ultrafast tri-oval in Vernon BC will reopen after a one year break in competition and they are looking for the Super Truck Series to return in 2015.
The series is currently in talks to solidify a major marketing partner for 2015. This series has long been a leader in Western Canada and Montana for exciting ‘door to door’ action from green to checker flag, making it a premier marketing opportunity for any emerging company.
At this point, the fans can expect to see 14-18 teams take to EIR on May 30th! If you’ve not seen this series, plan to take in one or more events to watch these teams battle it out for supremacy in 2015. We guarantee you won’t be disappointed in the action!
